SOURCES FOR THIS BOOK

The first book devoted solely to Hold’Em poker was a pamphlet written by David Sklansky   about twenty-five years ago.

Since then dozens of books on Hold’Em have appeared.

Many of the ideas expressed in this book have at least been inspired by these previous   books.

A later chapter of the book discusses a number of other Hold’Em and poker books.

For now I recommend four that I think every serious Hold’Em player should read (besides   this book)   Winning Low-Limit Hold’Em  by Lee Jones, Hold’Em Poker for Advanced Players   by David Sklansky and   Mason Malmuth, The Theory of Poker by David Sklansky, and   The Book of Tells by Mike Caro.

Read them if you get the chance, but go ahead and read this book first. Most of the original   ideas expressed in this book were formed while I played in the cardrooms of Northern   California, Northern Nevada, southwest Louisiana, and private games in South Texas Most of   what I know about poker I learned the hard way, with my money.

The Internet has been a rich source of ideas and a place to refine ideas.

There is an active Internet newsgroup, rec.gambling, poker.

Although they usually stick to poker, recent posts have ranged in topic from values of   vintage cars, to bankruptcy law, to the geography of Europe.  Mostly it’s about poker,   though.

Also, Two Plus Two Publishing maintains an on-line forum (www.twoplustwo.com) for the   discussion of poker theory and strategy.

PokerPages.com (www.pokerpages.com) also offers on-line discussion forums, in addition to   news on poker events and articles by wide range of poker writers.

While writing this book I used an Internet E-mail discussion group to provide me with a   forum to discuss the ideas and Hold’Em strategies in the book.

A number of poker-playing acquaintances from the Internet participated and helped   immensely in my ability to make some of my thoughts coherent.

In parts of the book, I also relied heavily on simulations using the computer software,   specifically Turbo- Texas Hold’Em for Windows, available from Wilson Software   (www.wilsonsoftware.com).
  Good luck.
